Professional Learning and Development

 A Long History

For nearly 50 years, Macie Publishing Company has provided engaging workshops, in-service clinics and professional development days for schools, school districts and at music conferences throughout the United States and Canada. Most recently, these sessions have become available virtually which presents wonderful new opportunities for recorder teachers.

Our staff of nationally acclaimed clinicians presents practical, easy-to-use information in a friendly, cooperative atmosphere.  We are also happy to speak with teachers individually and help them with their plans to establish or enhance their recorder programs.  Listening to your needs will enable us to brainstorm with you and suggest the ideas and options that are most suitable for your teaching situation.

Tailor Made and Hands-On

The workshops are fun and engaging!  No one wants to sit through a dry lecture.  Our clinicians provide ideas and practical teaching techniques that you can immediately use with your students.  A lot of ideas are “good in theory” but are not effective in a classroom full of young students.   The ideas and materials presented take into account the ability of young music students and have a proven track record of great success.  Now that sessions are conducted online, they are especially convenient and accessible.

We welcome the opportunity to work with Music and Visual and Performing Arts Coordinators and Supervisors.  We know that your time is at a premium so we will make the necessary preparations and plans subject to your approval.  If you are a teacher, lead teacher or supervisor/coordinator, we encourage you to contact us to see how we can best serve you.  We are here to help in any way we can.

No Cost

Most school district workshops are provided at no cost. All workshops are hands-on and complimentary materials are supplied.  Teachers have fun and learn effective teaching techniques that they can immediately utilize with their students.  We are happy to tailor a workshop to your school district’s needs.

With the advent of online availability, we can easily provide sessions of any duration – an hour, a half day or full day.  Teachers now have the option of attending sessions from home or obtaining access to our previously presented online workshops via our YouTube Channel.. We always enjoy speaking to teachers individually and are available to aid in planning and serve as a resource.

Implementation

The online version of the Be A Recorder Star Student Curriculum is ideal for classroom teaching and encourages students to continue their learning at home.  We find that even relatively small amounts of home practice pay big dividends with respect to comprehension and retention.  Be A Recorder Star, now features a Spanish translation that is a great asset for ESL students and dual language classes.  Our professional development sessions can include implementation of the online program with suggestions for various platform options, including Google Classroom, Flipgrid and others.  Training on an individual basis is also available.
