Monday, October 11th 7 pm: Rhythm Pies with Lenna Harris – It is necessary to develop strong rhythm reading skills from the beginning of a students’ musical experience. Lenna will share her tried and proven Rhythm Pie system using colorful icons to introduce and teach rhythm patterns with word cues and other counting methods. Bring your hand-held rhythm instruments, pots, or pans, and Lenna will show you how to make rhythm fun for your young students.
Monday, October 18th 7 pm: Special Techniques for Special Learners with Rina Sklar – We want to provide the best music education for students with special needs and their classmates. Rina will share recorder teaching techniques for your special learners that will help them and benefit the entire class. Techniques will include UDL (Universal Design for Learning) modifications. Bring your recorder and your questions for challenges you are experiencing.
Monday, October 25th 7 pm: Music Reading in Children’s Literature with Ran Whitley – This session explores how you can incorporate engaging musical concepts into children’s reading literature. Students love a great story, and using rhythm instruments and body percussion adds to the fun. Topics discussed will include rhythm, harmony, form, timbre, expression, improvisation, and curriculum integration possibilities. In addition, a series of books will feature a model for identifying and teaching these concepts as part of your story-telling adventure. The handout material includes a bibliography.
